Paco Jémez: “We wanted to delay our final situation but defeat has been the worst outcome”

The yellows’ trainer admitted that Alavés’ first goal this afternoon hurt his team, saying “it is tough to keep a positive mental attitude when you know you are going down”.

Paco Jémez had said he wished he could delay relegation prior to today’s match, stating “it couldn’t be, and we went down the worst way possible”. He spoke of the tricky situation the team has been through since his arrival, and said “we have worked hard to try to pull ourselves out of the mire, we had our chances, but didn’t take them”.

As for the fans, Jémez didn’t have too much to say as he knew they were entitled to protest, but he pointed out “we are sad, and any way you find to explain the situation we are feeling deep in our hearts”.

“Right now is not the time to discuss anyone’s future, there are still some games to go, and I feel strong enough to keep working and putting on a good show for our people and the club. Being relegated so early on is a terrible situation we are left with, we will have to put up with everything that is thrown at us” the manager concluded in the press room at the Estadio Gran Canaria.
