UD Las Palmas started the game brightly and put the Getafe goal under immediate pressure. A header by Gálvez smacked against the crossbar in the 8th minute. Getafe found it hard to settle against a dominant Las Palmas side. One of the standout figures in the away side’s starting line-up was Las Palmas’ loanee Rémy, who is at Getafe until the end of the season. The French forward played for just over an hour.

Getafe were unable to link up with their forwards. Ángel, Amath and Rémy constantly lost out against the Canary defenders. The Madrid side were playing for a European spot, but this circumstance seemed to adversely affect their play in the first half. Las Palmas should have gone ahead with a powerful shot by Nacho Gil that shaved the upright (min. 40). Half time arrived with a goal-less scoreline, and with Las Palmas clearly on top.

The crossbar once again reverberated following another effort by Gálvez at the start of the second half, this time with a left foot shot. Las Palmas continued to outplay Getafe, who were unable to put a decent move together. The away side were over-anxious in their efforts to win.

Bordalás reshuffled his side by bringing on an extra forward with much more impact, in the shape of Jorge Molina. Japanese midfielder Gaku began to get more involved and Getafe went all out for the win. Chichizola charged out of his goal to bravely block a counter attack by Amath (min. 68). Molina then missed an open goal in his side’s best chance in the 75th minute. Two minutes later Ángel hammered a shot against the crossbar. Getafe had left their calling card. But then Las Palmas responded with a shot by Jairo that Guaita turned away for a corner (min. 81). Straight after, Calleri hit a shot into the side netting. Any of the two sides could have scored. With just three minutes to go, a mistake by Javi Castellano out of defence led to a three on on attack that was finished off by
Ángel to put Getafe ahead (0-1). Las Palmas, who deserved no more, gave their all against a European hopeful who took full advantage of a slip-up in defence to take all three points.
