UD Las Palmas and RB Leipzig have agreed terms to transfer goalkeeper Josep Martínez to the German club, current leaders of the Bundesliga, although the player will remain at Las Palmas until the current season is over.

Josep Martínez (born 27-05-1998, Alzira) came to Las Palmas’ reserve team Las Palmas Atlético in the 2017/18 season from the youth set-up at FC Barcelona. He made his first team debut last season under then new manager Pepe Mel, in Las Palmas’ game at the Estadio Gran Canaria against CD Lugo, the home side running out 4-1 winners. Josep remained the first choice goalkeeper for the last six games of the season.

His outstanding performances over the final stage of last season earned him promotion to the first team squad at the start of the new season, where he has featured in 14 LaLiga SmartBank matches and two Spanish Cup matches. In addition, the Valencia-born goalkeeper has been called up to the Spanish Under 21 side on two occasions during this current season.
