Las Palmas says goodbye to the Cup in Almendralejo (3-1)

UD Las Palmas ended their campaign in the 2025-26 Copa del Rey this Tuesday by losing 3-1 to CD Extremadura, in a match played in front of 4,156 spectators at the Francisco de la Hera stadium.

Luis García Fernández chose to give three debuts in the starting lineup of the yellows: goalkeeper Caro, as well as central defender Carlos Navarro and midfielder Adam Arvelo. The theoretical starters of the League were not present in that initial photo, because the League is also approaching with the demanding weekend trip to the El Molinón stadium.

The match began with an early setback in ball possession that the Extremadura team took advantage of to take the lead. Las Palmas tried to respond to the initial 1-0 with several shots from Pejiño, Iñaki González, and Carlos Navarro, although they could not get past goalkeeper Cristian Rodríguez.

There were no further changes to the score in the first half, and as soon as the second half began, Iñaki González was injured and replaced by Manu Fuster.

In two minutes, two events went against the visitors' interests. First, a header from Cedeño hit the post. Moments later, Extremadura extended their lead with a second goal, scored from a penalty by Imanol Barace. The night was looking very difficult for García Fernández's team.

Valentín Pezzolesi's goal from a corner kick brought some excitement to the final stretch of the match. However, it was Frodo who scored the definitive 3-1 by finishing off a counterattack.

A shot from Manu Fuster that hit the post was the last notable moment of a night that ended with a loss and the tournament's closure for the yellows.
