Las Palmas comes back against Huesca, achieves 6 out of 6, and continues their fight for promotion (2-1)
UD Las Palmas managed to secure 6 out of 6 this Easter Week on Sunday. After their victory over Granada last Thursday, the yellows now won 2-1 against Huesca in a match full of intensity and struggle. Moreover, they had to come back in the second half from an adverse goal by SD Huesca. The goals of the comeback were scored by Jesé and Estanis Pedrola.
Luis García Fernández decided to make a significant overhaul to the starting eleven of UD Las Palmas, with up to seven changes compared to the lineup that began the match against Granada last Maundy Thursday.
The first minutes of the match were marked by two excellent actions from the goalkeepers. The first turn went to Dinko Horkas, who deflected a cross-shot from Daniel Luna in the 8th minute. That play was a warning of the counter-attacking game that Huesca had planned. Seven minutes later, his counterpart Dani Jiménez prevented a 1-0 score with a feline intervention after a long-range free kick executed by Jonathan Viera. The ball bounced in the area, but Estanis Pedrola squandered the follow-up opportunity with a shot over the crossbar.
As the minutes passed, the field began to tilt towards Huesca's goal. Dani Jiménez intervened again in the 25th minute to control a new cross-shot from Pedrola in two attempts. Moments later, Jesé tried his luck from the edge of the box, but a defender deflected it to a corner, avoiding further trouble.
When Las Palmas seemed to be gaining better momentum in their play, a mistake in midfield triggered a new counterattack that Luna completed with the 0-1, bypassing Horkas and sending the ball into the net of an empty goal.
The goal was a setback for the yellow team's plans, which threw themselves into an offensive push but struggled to find ideas or spaces to create the desired scoring opportunities. The first half ended with serious concerns and a 0-1 scoreline at the Gran Canaria stadium.
Las Palmas equalized the match at the start of the second half, following a good combination between Viti and Jesé, with the latter delivering an unstoppable finish. Estanis then had the chance to make it 2-1 after the hour mark. He had missed a shot in the area in the 64th minute, but in the 66th minute, he received a deep pass from Jesé, sprinted 40 meters with the ball to the area, and fired a powerful shot to score the goal that put UD Las Palmas ahead.
The final stretch of the match caused some anxiety for the home team, which focused its efforts on maintaining the scoreline until the final whistle. The victory achieved represents a morale boost for the team ahead of the last eight matches of the championship, with their chances in the promotion race still intact.
