UD Las Palmas and Cádiz continue to fine tune their teams for the league campaign. Although they remain far from the finished article. Both sides due to their history are called to feature prominently this season. Sharpness is coming through as the players are shedding their tiredness. A pre-season match at Línea de la Concepción with the Rock of Gibraltar as a witness. There were few goal chances, a lot more mistakes. Rubén Castro was rested for this game as a precaution.

Making his debut tonight for the yellows as Ivory Coast striker Drolé. He showed good touches and was very fast in some of the moves. The first half was a very even affair with Cádiz having the clearest chance on goal (m. 30), a shot by Calle Quintana that struck the bar. Just before half time the referee decided not to award Las Palmas a clear penalty following fouls on Srnic and Edu Espiau.

In the second period, Las Palmas were more ambitious and showed greater defensive strength. The introduction of Araujo, Mauricio Lemos, Timor, Galarreta and Benito gave Mel’s side more personality. In the 65th minute, the Uruguayan centre back sent his free kick crashing against the crossbar and De la Bella saw his volley come back of the upright five minutes before the end. Forward Sergio Araujo limped off with an injury to his ankle ten minutes from the end of the match.

The next game for UD Las Palmas will be this Friday at 19.30 Canary time, against UD Almería, in the Estadio Municipal de Marbella.
