Toni Otero, new technical secretary for UD Las Palmas

Toni Otero has today been named Technical Secretary for UD las Palmas. The former Celta de Vigo player comes to the club as the personal fully responsible for all sports-related issues, following the departure of Toni Cruz and Luis Helguera. His contract will run for one season with the option of a further season if the team bounces back up to the top flight next year.

Since, 2016, Otero has been part of the Technical Secretary Team at FC Barcelona, covering an area including Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Germany and Spain. In 2015 he worked as sports director for CD Lugo, in the Spanish Second Division. He had previously worked as youth team manager at RC Celta de Vigo, from 2008 to 2015.

He worked as Deputy to the Sports Management Team for the Galician team for three seasons. He successfully led the team to one promotion to the first division and another promotion via the play-offs. He spent a total of 23 seasons at the club in all, including his years as a player, as second team manager, and youth team manager for seven seasons. He led the training and signings of well known stars such as Hugo Mallo (Celta), Santi Mina (Valencia) and Denis Suárez (Barcelona).

In his extensive professional career, following his retirement as a player, he worked alongside several different managers, including top names such as Luis Enrique, Paco Herrera, Berizzo y Abel Resino.

Toni Otero will be officially presented this Friday at 11.00, in the press room at the Estadio Gran Canaria
