Pepe Mel: “This victory is very good because of how it was achieved”

Las Palmas’ manager acknowledged that his team had to suffer in order to gain victory this evening, stating “it feels especially good to win a game like this. We know that Extremadura would be a very intense side”.

Pepe Mel admitted that his team had to dig deep in order to win, saying "in training we practised playing against a defensive line of five and our approach worked. Playing against Extremadura requires intensity and if we hadn’t kept up with that pace the result would have been very different".

Jonathan Viera once again played a decisive role for the yellows and his manager decided to take him off as a precaution, because "he is still not 100% and we are always going to run the risk of him getting injured if he stays on the pitch too long".

Mel added "maintaining regular performance levels is very hard when you are missing so many players. We have brought key players back and this has made us better, but we will be without two players again for our next match". He ended by saying that given the club’s situation last summer "UD Las Palmas has had to reinvent itself".
