UD Las Palmas manager Manolo Jiménez was happy with his team’s performance in the Estadio Francisco de la Hera: “We knew what was at stake at this ground and the difficulty of playing in Extremadura, and we have come away with a very important away win. I am proud of the work the lads have put in”.

The game became an ever more even encounter as the minutes went by, as pointed out by the trainer: “The team were tired at the end, Extremadura fought really heard and when we ended up with a player less on the pitch they pushed us right back. We played with the intensity today that we lacked in the Cup game”.

Referring to the penalty awarded to Extremadura, he said “I don’t think it was a penalty, I will look at the replay, but that’s just football and I appreciate the referees have a tough job”.

Jiménez was thinking ahead to next week’s rivals Málaga in the Estadio Gran Canaria, saying: “They are showing what a good side they are, they have worked hard to put together a great squad”, adding “Our fans need to take us to another level so we can get a home win next week”.

Manolo Jiménez finished by referring to team work: “There is still a long way to go, and there will be some tough times. The important thing is that we are creating a great family atmosphere and are all fighting for a common goal”.
