Luis Helguera Bujía (born Ferrol, 9th June 1976) joins the club as new sports director, and will be unveiled by general manager Patricio Viñayo at the Ciudad Deportiva training complex at 12.00. The hiring of Helguera was decided by the club’s Board of Directors following the resignation of Rocco Maiorino on Saturday.
Helguera knows UD Las Palmas well, as he held the position of technical secretary from August 2016 until April 2018, when the club was in the First Division.
Luis Helguera had a long and fruitful playing career, turning out for teams such as CD Manchego, Real Zaragoza, Udinese, Deportivo Alavés, Fiorentina, Ancona, Vicenza and SD Huesca.
Following his retirement as a player he worked as Sports Director for SD Huesca, who he helped gain promotion to the Second Division in the 2014 - 2015 season. Following his first stint at UD Las Palmas, he was named Technical Secretary at Levante UD, where he remained from May 2018 until the end of June 2019.
