A first half penalty by Jonathan Viera was enough to give victory to UD Las Palmas this evening in Almendralejo. De la Bella was back in the starting line-up after overcoming his physical problems. Manager Pepe Mel put Benito in front of the Catalonian wing-back. The rest of the line-up was the same as the one that defeated Real Oviedo. In the first attacking move of the match, Las Palmas had a clear goal-scoring chance through Benito, but the left winger shot across goal after quickly breaking through against a hesitant home defence.

Las Palmas also wasted a great chance in the 8th minute with a shot by Narváez, following a quickly-taken free kick by Galarreta, which home goalkeeper kept out with a great save with his outstretched hand. Extremadura began to breathe more easily and created danger around the penalty area defended by Álvaro Valles. The Canarian goalkeeper turned away a cross-shot for a corner, and straight afterwards defender Mantovani managed to save his side from going behind with a last-ditch block on the goal line.

Las Palmas regained possession thanks to their greater individual and collective quality, and in the final few minutes of the first half broke the deadlock. In a team move, Benito Ramírez was brought down in the penalty box. Jonathan Viera, after waiting for VAR to confirm the decision, sent Castro the wrong way and put his side ahead 0-1 (min. 42).

In the second half, Extremadura scored what they thought was the equaliser in the 54th minute through Willy, but VAR disallowed the goal due to an off-side infringement just before this. For Las Palmas this was great news, and they went all out for victory. Valles then made another great save, keeping out a strong header.

The home side began to apply pressure by hitting long balls into the box. Jonathan Viera, who was doubtful until just before kick-off, was taken off with 22 minutes to go. The game became end to end, as Extremadura went all out in attack leaving gaps at the back which Las Palmas tried to capitalise on on the break. Las Palmas dug deep as they withheld the late siege by Extremadura, the situation made worse by the sending off of Mantovani (two bookable offences) in time added on, but held on for a great win (0-1).
