UD Las Palmas broke their recent run of five games without victory with a free-scoring performance against Real Oviedo. Jonathan Viera and Pedri were back together again, and the team, make no mistake, is much better for it. Pepe Mel had to modify his line-up, as De la Bella dropped out just before the start of the match due to gastroenteritis. His place at left back was taken by Benito Ramírez. UD Las Palmas were superior to Real Oviedo from the start. Just three minutes in another superb strike by Narváez put the home side ahead. With the early goal, Las Palmas enjoyed the lion’s share of possession against a hesitant away side.

Oviedo made the odd foray to the edge of the penalty area defended by Álvaro Valles, especially down the right, thanks to speedy winger Bárcenas. Then just before half time the deadly combination of Pedri-Jonathan Viera put the yellows 2-0 ahead (min. 39). The youth international fed the ball through to Jonathan Viera who scored with an exquisite touch. Las Palmas went in at half time with a comfortable lead and in buoyant mood.

In the first move of the second half, Jonathan Viera broke forward in a one on one with the goalkeeper but was unable to find the net. Oviedo’s trainer made a couple of substitutions in the hope of finding a change in fortunes. Las Palmas were creating spaces and knocking the ball about, as they went in search of further goals. Jonathan Viera put the game to bed with a free kick in the 77th minute. In the last few minutes the away side managed to reduce arrears through Bárcenas, who beat Valles with a well-placed shot. The referee initially disallowed the goal, but VAR confirmed that there was no offside. So victory for Las Palmas that helps them boost their confidence and stay in the pack with other clubs hoping to reach a play-off berth.
