A single strike by Charles at the start of the match was enough for Eibar to overcome Las Palmas in Ipurúa (1-0)

Eibar and Las Palmas had nothing to fight for in terms of first division points. The home team had fallen short of seventh place which would have given them European football next season, while Las Palmas were playing for pride and to put in a good performance in their last away match of the 2017/2018 season.

Forward Charles scored in front of an open goal for Eibar following a piece of individual play by Orellana (min. 6). The game was end to end which definitely benefited the home team. Las Palmas had come out fighting with a first effort on goal by Gálvez, a free kick that nearly caught out goalkeeper Dmitrovic.

The early goal meant the game lost its shape, with numerous long balls and hurried attempts at putting together moves. Muscle was overcoming any skill. With so little football and no goal scoring chances at either end the teams went in at half time with the home team’s slender lead.

Jémez shuffled his bench as the second half started. Ezekiel came on to replace Jairo. In a series of consecutive corners Las Palmas laid siege on Eibar’s goal, and they nearly got their equalizer. The clearest goal-scoring chance fell to Ezekiel (min. 70), as he ran towards goal only to strike his shot against the goalkeeper’s body. And that was it. Las Palmas showed flashes of good football, but Eibar were solid at the back and came away with victory (1-0).
