UD Las Palmas are gradually putting together a playing style and a settled starting line-up. Pepe Mel is repeating his footballing concepts in search of a group that will take the team forward. Lack of goals is one of the team’s worries, due to the injuries suffered by strikers Sergio Araujo y Rubén Castro.

In their fifth pre-season outing, Las Palmas stepped their play up a gear against a more demanding Almería side undergoing huge changes. The Andalusian side went ahead as they caught out the Las Palmas defence. In the 18th minute Simón Moreno put the ball beyond the reach of Josep Martínez. Las Palmas drew level in the 27th with a penalty by Timor following a foul on Benito Ramírez. Prior to the goal Cedrés had a clear chance that was saved by the Almeria goalkeeper.

Simón hit the post from nearly half way on the half hour mark. Las Palmas lacked the ability to slow play down in order to keep possession and to gain more depth. This is understandable as it is still pre-season. When they managed to string passes together and Pedri was involved Las Palmas looked a better side than Almería, a team who have quick players who tried to catch full backs Lemos and Aythami Artiles out, a defensive pairing who understand their defensive roles to perfection.

In the second half, Mel replaced Edu Espiau with Drolé. The African forward took over as striker. In the 50th minute another shot hit the post, this time a well hit free kick by Sergio Aguza that came back off the upright defended by Josep Martínez. Straight after this Uruguayan central defender Lemos and Galarreta wasted two great chances. The game lost its rythym with players being substituted, but neither side wanted to lose. There were no further goals but Cedrès left the field of play through injury.

This Sunday, at 18.30 Canary time, the next friendly match will see Las Palmas take on Granada CF at the 'Marbella Football Centre'.
