Juan Cala, Las Palmas’ new defender, said in front of the media today that “I will always be grateful to Manolo Jiménez for the opportunity he has given me to play in the First Division" although he admitted "we know each other really well and I am aware that if I am not fit to play then he won’t play me. He is a trainer who knows how to get the best out of his players, and that is good for the team".

"I like there to be competition among the players because that benefits the team" said Cala in reference to the number of defenders all fighting for a starting spot in the squad. The experienced central defender said how hard it was to play in the Second Division and that for him the key is "not to concede many goals, that is where success lies in this tough league".

Juan Cala has played in a range of clubs including Sevilla, Getafe and other teams outside Spain, and stressed that "the professionalism and hard work has made me wear the UD Las Palmas shirt to defend the badge as if it were my own" he concluded in the press room at the Estadio Gran Canaria.
