Setién: "This is a special match because we owe the fans a good performance"

Quique Setién pointed out that tomorrow’s clash with FC Barcelona is "a special one" because "we owe the fans a good performance". The trainer also considers the match to have a different kind of significance for him too.

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

"For us it is a matter of honour and dignity", he continued. "Barcelona have the league title at stake and that makes them a much tougher opponent. Even if we are at the top of our game, they can really hurt us. Setién also confirmed the absence of his players Tana and Vicente Gómez through injury. "We don’t want to force them", he indicated.

He also said that this last game of the season at the Estadio Gran Canaria is special. “As a professional I will accept whatever kind of memory I leave with the fans. The greatest satisfaction for me will be to give something for the fans to shout about. I will always remember my time here on this island, and I am humble when it comes to any criticism. I am leaving with the recognition that the team has played good football", he stated.

Concerning rivals FC Barcelona, he said that "there will be no special attention paid to tactics. Barcelona play a different kind of football to the rest of us. When Messi, Neymar and Suárez pull together they multiply their effectiveness. They are unstoppable. We hope they come out a bit sleepy and are unable to show their magic", he added. "We are sure to see the strongest Barça so far this league and they are in great form at the moment. To become champions doesn’t depend solely on what they do, although their rivals for the league title might slip up", he concluded.
